Published in 2018 by the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute, the multi-authored Tanzania Chimpanzee Conservation Action Plan for 2018 - 2023 suggests ways forward for Tanzania’s chimpanzee population of 2,500 individuals, most of which are found outside the country’s protected areas. It’s mission: by 2023, the ecology and cultural diversity of chimpanzees will be conserved in linked and viable populations, thus ensuring genetic diversity.
